The results are in! We are pleased to announce that Zola project manager, Evan Anderson, recently became certified as a passive house consultant (CPHC). We are very excited to expand on the in-house technical expertise that we can offer our customers. As a project manager, Evan guides Zola customers through the window specification process, which includes offering guidance on specifying their window packages for optimal performance, aesthetics, and value. Evan is based in our Steamboat Springs, Colorado headquarters and regularly consults passive house project teams on their window packages. Zola now boasts two passive house consultants on staff, as well as two Certified Passive House Builders.
Evan first became familiar with the concept of passive house during his studies in Energy Efficiency Engineering, and was immediately impressed. Evan notes, “The coolest thing about passive house is that it is the epitome of energy efficiency. Instead of adding gizmos, gadgets, and alternative power to make a building energy efficient, why don’t you just build the house to be the most energy efficient as possible to begin with? In addition, building to the passive house standard, including careful consideration of window layouts and exterior shading opportunities, can have a huge positive impact on occupant comfort levels.” Passive houses are praised not only for their low energy usage, but also for their superior comfort, air quality, and quietness.
Passive house building principles can be extremely valuable, even if projects don’t end up building quite to the passive house standard. Evan observes, “Paying closer attention to detailing, doing a better job at air sealing, and specifying high performance windows can create huge increases in energy efficiency.”
Congratulations, Evan!
