Zola recently sponsored the Techstyle Haus project in the European Solar Decathlon. The building is made out of high-performance textiles. The team included representatives from Brown University, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the University of Applied Sciences of Erfurt, Germany. Zola provided windows for the high-performance design.
Techstyle Haus is entirely solar-powered and performs to the Passive House Standard, the highest international standard for energy efficiency. It was also designed to be exuberant, with soft curves and textural fabric walls.
The project utilized Zola’s Thermo Wood windows. Zola’s lead service technician, Zach Whitt, traveled to Versailles, France to consult the Techstyle Haus team on window installation. Zach was thoroughly impressed by the project as well as the dedication and passion of the team. “The building is an incredible example of how dedicated, thoughtful design and strong motivation come together to create such a such an amazing structure in appearance and function in such a small amount of time,” observed Whitt. “Having never faced a 10-day completion period for an entire house, I was a bit skeptical that we could install the windows to Passive House standard in the time provided. The Techstyle team worked together seamlessly to ensure that any of the small hiccups (that are bound to surface in any window install) were met head-on with swift design collaboration to produce a high-quality end product.”
Congratulations to the Techstyle Haus Team on this beautiful and inspiring project!
